Air Navigation Department is one of the departments that compose the Directorate General of Civil Aviation; which is the responsible authority for the provision of air traffic services for the entire territory of Lebanon, including its territorial waters as well as the airspace over the high seas within the Beirut FIR.
The Air Traffic Services is provided in accordance with the provision contained in the following ICAO documents:
Air Traffic Control Services within the BEIRUT FIR are provided by the Beirut Area Control Centre, the Beirut Aerodrome Control Services and the Aeronautical Information Services.
The objectives of the Beirut Air Traffic Services are to:
a) Prevent collisions between aircraft;
b) Prevent collisions between aircraft on the maneuvering area and Obstructions on that area;
c) Expedite and maintain an orderly flow of air traffic;
d) Provide advice and information useful for the safe and efficient conduct of flights;
e) Notify appropriate organizations regarding aircraft in need of search and rescue aid, and assist such organizations as required.
The Aeronautical Information Service, as a division of the Air Navigation Department, ensures the flow of information necessary for the safety, regularity and efficiency of international and national air navigation within the entire territory of Lebanon and for the airspace over the high seas encompassed by the Beirut Flight Information Region. It consists of AIS Headquarters, International NOTAM Office (NOF) and a Briefing Office for (FPLs).
AIS units currently established at Rafic Hariri International Airport – Beirut.
This service is provided in accordance with the provisions contained in ICAO Annex 15: Aeronautical Information Services and the guidance material contained in the Aeronautical Information Service Manual (Doc 8126).
